editing and writing for clarity

About

Passion. Experience. Diligence.

Experience

From public health posters to end-of-life planning apps to accessibility documents to governance bylaws, I have edited nearly every type of document an organization produces. I have also written video scripts, news releases, background documents for new legislation, and online training content.

Making writing clearer gives me joy. With Editing Canadian English in one hand and plain language guides in the other, I create crisp sentences, even tone, and subtle (but correct!) punctuation.

I create style guides for those who awake in the night to pressing questions like Do we use a comma before “and”? (If you don’t use it, perhaps you should.)

I also teach two online courses—Editing for Plainer Legal Writing and Editing for Plainer Technical Writing—for the Plain Language Academy. Editors, lawyers, and trainers have all taken the legal course—the technical course is new. I’ve tried to make them useful, interesting, and challenging. Online learning makes them flexible.
